DNA Resources
The following links were graciously provided by Jim Molineux from his personal website. DNA tests can be a valuable tool with regard to genealogy.
Below the links are a few basics regarding DNA.
International Molyneux Family Association DNA Project
DNA Basics:
DNA - deoxyribonucleic acid (de-oxy-ribo-nucleic) DNA bases are A, C, T and G. A - Adenine C - Cytosine T - Thymine G - Guanine Each base will combine with another to form a base pair: AT, CG, etc. Within each human cell are chromosomes which carry the DNA genes. There are 22 paired chromosomes along with a sex chromosome (XY for male and XX for female). Each pair of chromosomes contains one from the father and one from the mother. Each human contains Recombined and Non-Recombined DNA Recombined DNA are the genes recombined over many generations and passed down from all ancestors in a persons blood line. This is why a person may have similar traits as a grand-parent or great grand-parent and beyond. Non-Recombined (NR) DNA are the genes passed down strictly through a male or female line. Male NR pass through: the direct male blood lines (Y-Chromosome), and the direct female blood lines (Mitochondrial or mtDNA). Female NR pass through the direct female lines only (Mitochondrial DNA).
